Marvel and trauma
Mar. 5th, 2025 08:51 pmOkay, so here's what I'm understanding about the current state of the MCU... Marvel wants us to feel sympathy for Wanda for losing her children that are not real... she created them as a result of having a mental breakdown. She enslaved an entire town to have them play along with her sitcom-style fantasies. This is the equivalent of playing The Sims, but enslaving real people and taking away their free will. And then proceeds to hunt down an innocent kid all so that she can live in a reality that she created. We're supposed to find empathy for her despite her being so unnecessarily evil all throughout MoM until like the very end.
While at the same time, we are supposed to find Thor falling into a deep depression and alcoholism after losing all of his family and having to witness his people be genocided, funny. Seeing him drunk to deal with the pain, seeing him gain all that weight from drinking, seeing him trying so hard to keep from bursting into tears after everything that had happened to him... that was all played for laughs. And despite all of this, he still did everything in his power to be a hero and help people.
I'm just... so pissed. I loved WandaVision, I cried multiple times throughout. What Wanda did was awful but unlike in MoM, she seemed to have some level of conscious and morality once she realized what kind of pain she was causing. In MoM, she was brutally murdering anyone who would get in her way, and then right after saying "I'm not a monster, I'd never hurt anyone, I'm only doing this because I'm a mother 🥺"
This isn't even the only issue I have with MoM, it was also just horribly written, but that's a post for another time. Shit like this movie and TLAT was what made me stop caring about the MCU for so long...
